I still don't think I answered your question properly though.... Depending on the synth sound and how much of the low end I need/want I'll take the filter right up until it's changing or cutting off the sound I actually want and then I'll just move it back a tiny bit. Sometimes I'll keep the hpf at 100hz and use an mclass eq to carve out frequencies in specific areas. It all depends though
