I think many people here kick and scream about nothing serious really. I have an old 2006 Macbook and updating to Lion is the best decission I've ever made, and would have updated to Mt.Lion if it was supported ...

Problem is that Reason 7 has nothing so fancy that would justify such os requirements. Look at premium, much more advanced software: NI Komplete 9 runs under 10.6.8 (unoficially, but it's real). Ableton Live 9 runs even on 10.5; Presonus Studio One v2 -10.6.8 etc. It's a bit ridiculous - Reason was always known as efficiency champion even on low end computers.

It's a decision of tool change. This doesn't necessarily increase user experience. But if developers can achieve their goals much faster or more elegant, then the upgrade of development tools is justified - from the viewpoint of cutting costs and increase of productivity (called "velocity").

I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, it to works fine on a 2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 4Gb of RAM. I decided to keep the upgrade to a minimum as I originally had no intention to upgrade, Snow Leopard is a very stable OS. However the requirements for Reason 7 forced me to do it.

I find Lion to be stable and it has some good features. It hasn’t turned my iMac into a slug and best of all I can run R7. I did find it difficult to find a Lion installer however as mostly they are now Mountain Lion.

Was just getting ready to install Reason 7 when I saw that it requires OS X 7 - ridiculous. I think Propellerheads get a lot right, but not supporting OS X 10.6.8 with this release is a really poor decision. It's not like 10.6 is the equivalent of Win 98, for heaven's sake!

But Apple gets rid of "previous" frameworks much faster than other companies. The first apps arrive at the store with "10.8 ML or higher only".

Can you point at least the one substantial advantage of Mountain Lion over Snow Leopard here?
I've already have Lion infected MBP from 2012 and it's like perfect warning screaming to me: avoid!
It has nothing to do with nostalgia as some fanboys suggest...
And I have to warn you: I don't have Facbook account, I don't Twitt, I don't use iCloud, I gave away my iPad 'cause I hated it, and my only agreeable sickness is my iPhone that I don't cherrish to much either...
Then: what advantage an old grumpy prick like me can find in Mountain Lion?
Thank you and skål!

Easy, you'd meet the requirements to run Reason 7
