Depeche Mode Basslines and Others like that, how to recreate?

I was wondering how does Depeche Mode and other Artists along those lines, created their basslines.

Here are 2 Examples so you know what I am talking about.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diT3FvDHMyo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8KNo1wFS_k (starts at 22 seconds)

I know they can be played, but are probably not. Is it just 16th not patterns? Any tips or advice?

Thankyou.

Depeche Mode is one of the best bands ever, and that's all I know about them.

Hi

Some may have been played but a lot of that stuff was sequenced using Analog Sequencers or Arpeggiators. Look to Matrix, Thor's Seq and RPG-8. Thor's Seq is probably the closest of the lot as it lets you make a lot of changes but don't expect it to be super easy to get immediately.

The other trick common enough at the time was to use LFOs. Now with BPM matching that would be pretty easy but your sequence will match the song instead of the other way around which if you think about Analog drift will tell you something.

Open reason, create a synth bass (combinator, thor, any device you like) add a rpg-8, turn on pattern, turn off notes 4, 8, 12, press key on controller lol. Both examples are just arp bass lines playing one note root keys nothing very complicated, without being a knob if you can't master those you're in the wrong business
