when i am using mclass comp sidechaining, I ALWAYS start with these settings:
Input Gain: 0
Thresh: -36 or whatever is far left turn value
Ratio: infinity or whatever is far right turn value
attack: 0 or fastest/shortest left turn value
release: 500+ or whatever slowest release time is
output gain: 0
Using these settings, you can then manipulate the sample playing into the redrum via the sample length, volume, tone, veloci etc. ON the redrum. this will get you pretty close to spot on without even adjusting the mclass comp at all. THEN, you can subtly manipulate the comp settings above, experimenting with softknee and threshold/ratio, followed by attack release. the input/output gains will obviously depend on taste, but ideally you should be able to get your "swoosh" curve pretty precise within the redrum itself so that you dont need any "exotic" comp settings.
Second FYI - been experimenting with the external sync SSL sidechain compression options of late and gain reduction cv routing on the mclass comp - a much more subtle sidechain effect that you might be interested in pursuing. By using spider merger/splitters, you can split the sidechain kick sample signal from the redrum into the external sync inputs correlating to the SSL compressor (located on the reverse- tab on your keyboard - side of the mastering combinator that is stock created with every file (NOT A MASTERING COMBI but the part that routes into rewire etc. This will trigger a BLUE external sidechain sync button to light up on the SSL compressor thereafter, and you can route any mix channel thru this (every mix channel has normally unused input/outputs on the back - they look like combinator outputs but are not and are only located on actual mix channel strips.
