Just to say something official:
Minimum system requirements are strange beasts. In some areas (OS version for example) they can mean "Reason can under no circumstances run with anything less than this".
Other areas (RAM for example) are performance related - there things are not as precise and clear-cut.
Performance depends on context and environment :
If I make music with few/light devices or few samples, I can get along on a computer with lower specs.
If I do really heavy stuff, the minimum requirements probably won't cut it at all.
Also, if I run lots of other programs, this might affect Reason performance too (RAM for example).
If I'm very tech savvy, I can probably tweak my computer to get more performance out of Reason. Etc.
When we decide on the minimum requirements, we have to set them so that Reason works for the vast majority of users, with normal usage.
So, it's surely possible to run Reason with less RAM than recommended, but in many cases this can become problematic. As always, a new user should download the demo and try it out, if in doubt.
I'm writing this because it might not be self-evident to newcomers. For veterans like Enoch and Phasys however, this should be obvious stuff.
