I can't comment as to whether the Air will run Reason well enough, but my wife has got one and I have to tell you the thing is a work of art. The seemingly small difference in weight actually *feels* like a huge difference when I compare it to my work laptop.

This is what concerns me.

The plan is for me to only use this machine when I'm on the move - daily commute (2+ hours captive on a train each day) or generally when travelling (at home, I will almost always use the i7 quad core workhorse in my studio). If it feels too heavy I will be reluctant to sling it in my bag and then it's defeated the object of me getting the thing in the first place.

I have to chuckle ... anybody reading this thread can see as plain as day I'm talking myself into an Air, contrary to some of the advice given I know.

I think the final task for me now is to get myself to an Apple store and have a play to feel these things in the flesh.

Smile

Get a MBP with 13 inch screen and solid state drive.

Nothing beats it and its only marginally heavier than the Air.

Okay, I'm probably being slow here but I've just discovered that the MBP Retina is significantly thinner (1.9cm vs 2.41cm) and lighter (1.62Kg vs 2.06Kg) than the standard MBP. That's approaching half a kilo difference.

So now I'm thinking MBP-R ... 8D

I have a fully souped up 2012 11'' Macbook Air that I love to bits for music. I think of it as a super powerful Ipad. It handles Reason fine until I really start stacking the REs, but I don't think the 13'' Macbook Pro would do any better.. especially with a Retina display.

If you go pro, go quad core. Otherwise, if you value extreme portability for your music making computer (as do I), I'd take an air over the 13'' pro.

btw, I'm moving outside the box lately again.. aquiring analog outboard gear. This significantly lowers my cpu usage, and I think the air is now more than adequate without having to power multiple RE synths.

Prints, what spec is your Air (CPU, RAM, Flash, etc.) please?

Again, many thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.
