deleting stuff from the registry

I saw a thread on here once about how to delete stuff from a PC registry. I'm kinda scared screwing around with the reg, but I see so much crap there that has to go.

Just reinstall windows on a regular basis. I do it every month. It ensure's that your system is always in a very good condition and it's not much work.

Doesn't installing windows on a monthly basis run the risk of losing data if something goes haywire? I've heard it's not a good idea to do it.
