Smile Best Music Production Laptop??

Hi there...

I'm in the process of buying a new laptop to run Reason 4 with, my old laptop seemed fine with 2.5 but now I'm getting into things a bit more and using more effects etc, it slows right down and can't play the track. I've had the laptop for 4 years now and the processor is only 250MB.

I was looking at a Dell Inspiron 1720 (My budget is around £500) and it's got a massive 3072MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM. But I read a lot of negative things about all the bits & bobs Dell put on their machines that actually slow it back down again!

Any recomendations would be fantastic!

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Tim

I got a 1520 last year an' i've had no probs *touches wood*. Cost me £995 with the 3 year care package an' i have 'til November to pay it off b4 the interest kicks in. Heard alot of shit about Dell b4 hand but was advised by a friend who is both a producer and an uber nerd an' so knows his stuff, an' so far so good *touches wood*. I asked for xp too cos they all ship with Vista but it's up to you. Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys...

Yeah, I decided to go with the Dell last night, was online looking for the best deal, I wanted a combo of a 17" display & the high memory, I ended up parting with more than I anticipated, but I suppose an extra £100 spread over the next 4 years of better quality use, somewhat cusions the blow.

One thing I didn't realise is that you could request XP, I didn't see this option when I went through the 'Customise' process!!

Thanks again,

Tim.

You'll be happy with Vista, at least I am ... and for sure I hate it when my OS cause my experience to be faulty, slow or just not running my apps well ...
Only thing is to stay up to date .. SP1, updates etc. Also check regularly if Dell released new drivers, BIOS, etc.

You'll be happy ... especially when you fire up Reason 4.0.1

Have fun!
