Help with clipping when the DSP meter gets too high

In a song I am making a certain section has a lot of the more complex synths and things in Reason going at the same time and my DSP meter goes to about 1/2 to 2/3 the way full. When this happens certain synth sounds start to crap out and sound like shit. I thought that maybe by lowering the bitrate of the sound processing from 96 to 48 that it would stop this but it doesn't. How do I keep my DSP meter down or can you just not run a lot of complex things at the same time? Only certain synth sounds start to shit out when the meter gets too high but they are always ones that I need in the song...any help would be cool.
