Recomended freeware?

Hi,

I am going to buy a macbook to use Reason in a live environment.

I cant afford a daw as yet. I dont think I even need one.

All I am looking for is the ability to have wav file play on one channel and to record vocals/noises onto another channel.

I have a version of ableton lite (the free one you get with m-adio products).

Will this do, or can anyone suggest anything better - Audacity perhaps?

Thanks in advance.
