Midi experts, Remote override.

On the subtractor there is no knob assigned to volume.
I want to assign a knob and I can override remote mapping in the standard way.
However when I override it the subtractor does not have to be selected or have MIDI input focus. So whatever instrument I have selected the knob always effects the subtractor volume!
I just want this knob to effect the subtractor when the subtractor has midi focus.

It seems like an obvious thing to do but if you look at the section of the manual on Remote Override page 46 paragraph 3
"The device does not have to be selected or have MIDI input focus."

I'm using reason V3.0 and a Novation Remotre 61 SL

Thanks
