Create new device should not refocus MIDI input

Hopefully I've got this wrong. I've tried combinations of using Master Keyboard and so on and I couldn't figure it out.

At the moment if I'm playing an instrument via a MIDI controller and I create another device (say a DR REX for drums), Reason automatically assumes that I want to trigger the new device and switches focus to the new device.

This isn't always what you want to do. It works well for layering musical parts but there should be a way to switch it off.
