usb device drawing too much power and has disabled device....

I am getting this prompt now when I plug in an Akai MPK49 to a Macbook Pro running OSX. This is now just an issue as I have previously been running the two together for a little over a month. As well, I am still able to power a M Audio Fast Trak Pro (phantom powering a condenser mic) with no difficulties at either of the two ports on the Macbok, with any USB cable.
I am wondering if I need to invest in an AC adapter to power the Akai. But this is somewhat confusing as (again) I have been using the macbook to power the Akai for over month- no problems. I have troubleshooted the problem to be the fault of the MPK.
I have noticed that USB port in the MPK has become a little loose lately.
My question is: has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you do?
thanks
