get rid of echo in vocal monitoring

I use a Fast Track Pro,
and there is a mix nob that blocks out the effected audio through reason (reverb, echo, etc. ), just giving you the direct, clean audio, but when I turn it the other way it feels like the clean audio is still mixed in with the reason effected audio,

Why is it that I feel like I am hearing both the direct audio and effect audio creating a weird harmonic?

Is there a feature that allows me to only hear the effected audio through reaosn?
Do I need a better DAW I/O?
