X/Y pad "controller" for Combinator

In the never ending quest for an expanded Combinator I was just thinking how cool it would be to have the option for an assignable X/Y controller. This would allow you to control many more aspects of the enclosed devices from a single control, giving you a great 'performance' control (or two, if there's room!).

This would need to be automatable, even if that means it needs two automation lanes - maybe a simple sequencer update would allow 'layered' controls such as X/Y types to be edited in a single lane?

This suggestion assumes unlimited programmer slots, since you could quickly run out of slots even just assigning devices to this one controller. ;-)
