Reduce noise from guitar/bass input in Balance

A bit of a newb question, but it's been bugging me for a while. I have Reason 7, and Balance interface on a PC. I have a Fender Jazzbass (American) and Fender Telecaster (American), so good guitars. But plugged into the Balance and into Reason, I always get a lot of hiss and static noise. I always try to stand as far from the computer as I can when recording (which only improves it slightly), but it's always there. The way I take care of it is gating the guitars.

Any ideas or tips on how to improve this? Maybe the types of cables i'm using, DI, etc? Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
