Kong = King (small rant)
Sorry guys, I really need to get this off my chest and well; figured I'd dump it here because this hardly fills up one blog post ;-) I know that I'm probably way behind the facts (having only upgraded from 4 to 6 a few weeks ago) but alas, it can't be helped
Ever since I got my MPD24 for my percussion I've been facing a bit of a problem: building my own drumkits. Up until now always done in Live in a so called "drum rack". Pretty good instrument, no complains what so ever. But... building your kit is a bit tedious because when I hit 'play' on a pad in a rack device the velocity is always 127. And yes; there is always the option to use the computer keyboard where I can also change velocity a bit. But.... That only "works", but so far its been my experience that there has always been a huge difference between sitting behind my PC or behind my MPD (where it counted).
Its why I gave Maschine a try but unfortunately ended up disliking that due to severe and repetitive hardware problems. Awesome workflow, shame about the hardware...
This evening I finally found the time to give Kong a good test drive, and all I can say is... Whoah!!
I can honestly say that I haven't had this much fun building a drumkit ever since I gave Maschine a trial run.
Nothing negative regarding all the other stuff I use, but Kong simply dominates big time here.
Right now I have 5 pads setup (or 8 if you count the extra 3 hi-hat types, but these basically trigger pad 5 again) and I've never had this experience that the stuff I setup behind the PC would actually give me a very realistic preview of what I can expect when hitting my MPD24.
I tried it.. Sure, it took me several hours but like whoah! Not only do I get a good impression of what I can expect will happen, it actually happens when I sit behind my MPD24.
This is really big for me because so far my workflow used to be "setup kit, test kit behind MPD24, go back to PC (Live) and reconfigure, test changes behind MPD24, go back to PC to fine tune, test tuning behind MPD24" often repeating certain steps several times!
And so; after approx. 4 hours into Kong I can only come to one conclusion; see topic :-)
With kind regards,
Using the Big Trio: Live 9 Suite, Max (for Live) and Reason 6.5.
