Playing guitar through audio interface into Reason.

Hi there, im an idiot when it comes to things like this, but this has been confusing me for sometime and i know it can be done, ive seen it first hand. So i have an Akai EIE pro audio interface, and i want to just plug in the guitar and play it through reason. The guitar is plugged into the guitar input on the interface. There is no response on the interface or Reason though. Not necessarily recording at the moment but for now just messing around with effects. Ive seen someone do it on the program Logic, and they said its similar on reason, you have to make an audio track or something along those lines. So could anyone provide some insight on if this can be done and how? Thanks whoever answers.
