Please help. Midi not recording properly in Reason 6.5

I've seen this problem in the forum before.
Midi instruments, e.g. Maelstrom, play and sound fine live but when recorded the playback is very muffled and without any sustain. Audio signals (e.g. guitar) record and play back fine. The midi instruments that are in Sonar X1 record and play back fine. I have the updated drivers for my soundcard (RME Fireface 800) and my controller (M-Audio Keystation Pro 88). I have uninstalled Reason and reinstalled it a couple of times (I have 6.5.3 installed). I only have one instance of my controller listed in my Reason Preferences box. I have connected and reconnected the controller. I have the controller on the correct preset suggested by Reason. Earlier versions of Reason worked fine with my hardware. Windows XP service pack 3; 3.4 GHz processor; 3 GB RAM.
Any advice? This is aging me.

Thanks, Joe
