Techno/house producers. How do you sequence your drums?

I love using the Redrum, programming the patterns in the different banks, then using automation to switch between patterns. I never copy notes to the sequencer. I've done both ways (if I'm writing notes to the track I use Cubase or Ableton) but it seems easier and more creative just creating patterns in the bank of Redrum and switching between them in the automation. Am I the only one?
