USB DAC or Realtek HD?

I am currently using reason 6.5 with ASIO4ALL on a Samsung rv720 laptop which has a built in realtekhd on board sound. I've been recently thinking if I'm really doing justice to my music productions with the onboard sound card or whether I should opt for a USB DAC with ASIO? Can any offer any advice on this? Would I get better sound quality? could improve on the 512 sample buffer size that I'm currently using with my onboard sound card? Would a lower buffer size make any difference? I'm no audiophile but do feel I'm lacking quality in my mixes, which of course could be just down to me, however it's more about the sound quality really, a lack of oomph to my kicks etch and some of my synth sounds that I have created from tutorials sound flat compared to the tutorial itself etc.

I don't have a huge budget for an external DAC, but some advice on which ones to look at would be great? I've been having a look at the behringer uca202, which is pretty cheap but has some great reviews, although I can't work out if I would get an improvement over my onboard sound?

Anyone's help greatly appreciated.
