Prepair track for Mastering question
Hi. When mastering in reason 6 I noticed the output volume of the track is limited by the master fader. The first time I exported a master track I noticed it wasn't as loud as it should be. I imported it into a wav program and saw it was squashed at the DB the fader was set to (for example -4db). Before I master a track I play the whole song to make sure it's not clipping in any areas. Then I would normally mix down and start a new file to master in, but I felt quality was being lost.
I want to know what others are doing. Mixing down the song first and mastering it in a new file with fader set to 0, Or mastering in the same file then normalizing the song if needed.
