Lightbulb support for recording with multiple sound cards simultaneously

lets say we want to record 16 tracks of audio

wouldn't it be nice to have 4 of your friends with home studios come over and combine all of your sound cards in one recording session ?

at the end of the studio session they can pack them back up and you are down to the usual 4 or what ever ..

from what i can see they would need a button that says add another card

or it could auto detect more than one card and offer them to be bound as one card ... ?

do we need a new standard for this ?
