Getting a good shuffle/swing feel....

Man I'm listening to some Luke Vibert and he gets some killing shuffle going on his drum tracks.

I've been trying to figure out how to get a good swing feel for ages. There has to be something I'm missing. Yes, I have played with the shuffle feel quantization in both reason and cubase extensively and it's just not cutting it. I think what I'm going after is more of the traditional jazz "dotted eight note" swing feel.

I hear this type of swing feel a lot in sequenced tracks- luke vibert has it going, I also hear it in a lot of hiphop, old tribe called quest for instance. When I hear it, it really sounds locked in, as if it was %100 snapped to a grid in a sequencer- but at what resolution?

The only thing I can think of, is that any notes that aren't on a 1/8 note are getting snapped to a triplet. On my own tracks I've gotten close by just zooming WAY in and manually moving notes till the sound right. Also I've tried just moving the snares back a few ticks, or the kick forward...But either method doesn't have that super tight quantized element.

Any ideas?
