Soft Synths vs. Keyboards
Last December, when I shelled out a few hundred bucks for Reason and a 'silent' (MIDI-only) keyboard, I congratulated myself on making a very economical purchase. Rather than going out to buy yet another fancy keyboard with its own little on-deck computer, I was finally unlocking the synthesis power of my desktop computer. Since then I've been very pleased with what I can do in Reason (particularly when ReWired into Logic), and it makes me wonder: are traditional keyboards becoming a thing of the past? Twenty years from now, will anyone actually go out and buy another huge chunk of plastic & electronics, or will they just download a new module for their laptop?
