Something for the Dutch computerbased musicians.

How Hip is Your Computer?

The new club Bitterzoet (Bittersweet), in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam, is hosting a special monthly event. The jazz/dance group, Sfeq (Dox Records) will be leading a jam session, open to all musicians, the first Tuesday of every month. What is unique about this session? It's all in the name. Along with Sfeq, instrumentalists, djs and computer musicians can take part via the music technology and computers available on stage.

The typical jam session repertoire of jazz-standards, blues, and funk, is replaced by a computer-based grid of loops and sounds. "How hip is your computer?" is supported by Ableton and Native instruments, and musicians will have the opportunity to take part using Ableton Live, Reaktor, and Traktor. Audio files will be available at performances, and also online in the weeks before each event so that guest musicians may also prepare material for the sessions.

Several large screens project active audio programs along with video improvisation by Jansen1S. The audience can view what the musicians are doing with the technology as they perform. Each session will be recorded and incorporated into the club's constantly expanding jukebox, to be played on other nights.
