academic version vs. regular version.

While looking for software i find that there are many versions out there called "academic version" they are usually alot cheaper then the regular version. It says they require papers showing you work for a school system of student i.d. Me being only 15 happens to have a student i.d and could save my self a couple bucks by buying academic versions. What is the diffrent between the academic version of programs and full? Can you not do certain functions or something?
