Reason on a Mac (OS X) vs PC (Windows) - performance results

Thread request - Let's be honest, intelligent and rational.

This isn't a comprehensive benchmark test, just a quick comparison I did this afternoon. If it's flawed, I apologize. I was pretty surprised at the results.
Here's my test:

Apple PowerMac G5
OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Dual 2.0GHz PowerPC G5
FSB - 1GHz per processor
1.5GB PC3200 (400MHz)
160GB Serial ATA 7200 RPM
Built-in Core Audio

IBM ThinkPad T40 (Centrino)
Windows XP SP/2
(one) 1.5 GHz Pentium M
FSB - 400 MHz
768MB PC2100 SDRAM
40GB Ultra-ATA/100 5400 rpm
SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio

Reason 3.0.3 demo
Song - "The RedShirt" (Reason 3 demo song)
Played continuous loop between measures 49 and 72
Audio Settings:
Sample Rate = 44100
Buffer Size = 256
Output Latency = 6 ms

Results using Reason's CPU ticks
PowerMac G5 - low=7 high=10
ThinkPad T40 - low=0 high=1

Yes, that's a zero, and quite a large margin in favor of the ThinkPad. Is core audio solely to blame for the G5's poor results? In fact, the G5 began to stutter the instant I increased the sample rate *OR* decreased the buffer size. On the other hand, the ThinkPad didn't begin to stutter until I throttled the sample rate up to the maximum setting (latency had been set to 2 ms well beforehand).
