They say that March comes “in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.” But a quick look at the headlines around the world… snow in the US, snow in the UK, and obviously snow up here in Sweden. It seems that March didn’t read the memo that spring is coming! Fortunately, while you’re snowed in we’ve got some cool news and stories to hold you over.
In this issue:
A few weeks back, we announced Reason 7, rife with new features to make your music making easier, faster and more fun. Beta testing is underway right now and we are happy to announce a final release date. Reason 7 will be available in retail stores and online on April 30th.
Anybody who buys Reason after March 1st will receive a free upgrade to Reason 7. If you don’t have the latest version yet, act now to save time and money.
When we released Figure 1.4 with support for direct export to SoundCloud, we started the Figure Drawing contest together with SoundCloud and Beats by Dre. Basically, anyone using Figure to publish a track to SoundCloud participated in a grand prize draw where the winners were picked by random, but where each track play counted as one lottery ticket.
We now have two winners!
First, France-based music producer Francisco Manzano // Humming won with his track Imagine Mario Bros with Figure.
The first prize package contains a pair of Beat by Dre Pro headphones, a complete Propellerhead Software production suite (Reason, ReCycle & Balance) and also a one year Pro account on SoundCloud.
Swedish producer Katzenjammer won the second prize package with his droning piece Hypnoture Zwei.
The second prize package consists of a Beats By Dre Beatbox iPhone speaker system, a complete Propellerhead Software production suite (Reason, ReCycle & Balance) and a one year Pro account on SoundCloud.
So head over to the app store, get Figure 1.4, and get the beats flowing!
For nearly as long as Dubstep has gone from being an experimental subgenre to the juggernaut world-dominating scene that it is today, Grime has been its lesser known cousin - developing right alongside Dubstep but staying safely in the underground. It’s not that we haven’t all heard Grime beats before but masterful Grime producers have been weaving the sounds into pop songs and remixes in ways we don’t realize, effectively sneaking Grime into our playlists.
We recently met up with respected Grime producer, Preditah, to walk through his latest instrumental beat.
“Charlotte” is the most advanced Envelope Generator (EG) module for Reason, offering a versatile 9-stage envelope with independent time, level and curve control for each stage.
And that’s not all!
In addition, Charlotte also has a seven-mode priority-determining chord splitter, supporting up to eight notes to eight independent sets of EG, CV (note) and Gate outputs.
