Electronic Luv Kit (Reason Factory Sound Bank / NN-XT Sampler Patches / Drums and Percussion / Drums and Kits)
The Electronic Luv Kit gives us all the basic drum sounds we need to start building a beat and writing a song. From the punchy kicks to the ideal set of percussive jabs, is our go-to kit for hit songs.
RhodesMK1 Trem (Reason Factory Sound Bank / NN19 Sampler Patches / Piano)
This patch is a staple in our palette of instruments, and gets used on song after song. From neo-soul to hip hop, this sound has been a timeless classic for us over the past few years.
Stereo Gated Synth (Reason Factory Sound Bank / Thor Patches / Rhythmic)
When we need a song to have some serious bite, we pull up the Stereo Gated Synth. We’ll use it on the low end to drive the rhythm, or in the mid-high range for melodic lines or stabs. Depending on the song, sometimes we’ll reduce the amount of delay, or even shut the delay off entirely to achieve the right impact for the song. With Thor’s powerful editing options, we know we’re just a tweak away from making this monster sound perfect for any track.
Bass Guitar (Reason Factory Sound Bank / Subtractor Patches / Bass)
This sound gives us the tight, articulate low end that works for many songs. It’s particularly great for melodic bass lines and rhythmic parts, where the cutoff is a key aspect of the groove.
BassQue (Reason Factory Sound Bank / Subtractor Patches / Bass)
This warm, fluid bass patch reminds us of some of our favorite old analog bass synths from back in the day. In our Reason rig, we made one minor modification to the patch: Under the "Filter Envelopes" section, try turning the attack ("A") slider all the way up for the ultimate in smooth bass.
Nat Motte's Top Five
