The Limousines Top 5
Into cheap toy synths and analog vintage gear. Has been using Reason since out of high school. Produced music for MTV and various commercials. Has remixed YeaSayer, Chromeo, Lady GaGa, All American Rejects, Jay-Z, Geographer, etc.
Attic Guitar (Reason Factory Sounbank / NN-XT Sampler Patches / Guitar and Plucked)
I used this patch for the guitar sound for The Limousines song "Internet Killed The Video Star" It's the initial sound you hear in the song and repeated throughout. I combine it with the Scream 4 distortion on the 'distortion' setting with P1 set to about 9, bumped the high end EQ parameter a little and gave it a B setting Body. Love this Patch to Death. So New Order.
1FingerFun (Reason Factory Sound Bank / Malstrom Patches)
This such a cool "beep boop" type sound that actually holds harmonies well. I've been using this on new songs and it's a great colorful additive to any high harmony. I throw an "Easy Fuzz" Scream Disto on it and give it a "warm plate" RV7000 reverb. Its gritty and heavy. Robot take-over!!
Rich Voice Pad (Reason Factory Soundbank / NN-XT Sampler Patches / Voice)
This is my 80's synth-pop secret. Very Hot Chip sounding. I usually try and stray away from digitally recreated voices on the terms of over-use but this one is just irresistible. Very Clean and big. I set the parameters to a 4 on the release for a hall type sound. I hear the angels singing.
Arpeggiate (Reason Factory Sounbank / Subtractor Patches / Polysynths)
I'm sure this is meant for arpeggiating as suggested in the name of the patch but I think this pitched down to a -2 octave is a perfect disco/freestyle/dark 80's bass sound. I use the "DRM 80sGatedPlate" RV-7000 reverb setting to make it sound like you just threw your bass amp into a racquetball court. I also give it an "OverDrive" Scream Distortion with the Low and High Bumped up quite a bit for the crispness and deep tone.
Square SQ (Reason Factory Soundbank / Thor Patches / Polysynths)
This is the gritty goodness all the bloghouse blogs were talking about a little while back. Use the Scream Distortion with it set to "Scream" and turn the damage control all the way up. Also, turn the Mids all the way up. Body is set to B preset. Throw a Comp-1 on there. Do all that and you're a regular Daft Punk Justice Megan Man.
