52 Reason / Record Tips - Week 34: Automation Clip Toolboxposted 2010-10-14 at 21:38
Whenever I'm working on music, one thing that I've had in my personal bag of tricks is an "automation clip toolbox." Basically, it's a palette of controller data curves and waveforms which can be applied to automation lanes like level, pan, filter cutoff, etc.
Thanks to the new "stretch clip to tempo" function (Option+Drag for Mac or Control+Drag for Windows) I can resize these automation clips to whatever speed I want. This week I'm giving this toolbox away and showing you how to use it. These clips will breathe new life into an otherwise static pad or provide the creative spark for a new idea entirely. Enjoy!

Thank you again James for another great tutorial. Your weekly tips are invaluable and are much appreciated. Reason has so much to offer in a D.A.W. and sometimes we need some instruction for advanced techniques which you provide weekly. Thanks

Hi James did you draw those automation clips yourself or did you record the automation patterns somehow like an lfo controlled midi input? if you drew them manually is there anyway to add curvature to a straight line for instance like the curve between two automation points?
Many Thanks for the great vids!

Yea, so how did you make these? Can I copy any track of midi data and paste it in as automation? Hmmm, lemme go try that.
